What Is A Cord Cutting Ritual
We are breaking free from the energetic ties of negative energy from past relationships or adverse life experiences.
The energetic cord is symbolic of the umbilical cord we have when we are born.
It’s this cord that represents our emotional attachment to the experiences of our past.
The more intense the emotions, the harder it is to cut the cord.
Creating a sacred space for you to perform this ritual or ceremony is the key to severing ties from a toxic relationship in your past.
Letting go of the emotions that no longer serve you helps you move forward with new opportunities and new beginnings.
Completely free yourself from the anchor of emotions holding you hostage with the cord-cutting meditation seen below.
Cutting cords will invite you back into alignment with who you truly are.
Things You’ll Need to Cut Energetic Cords
The best place I’ve found to find cord-cutting candles is on Etsy.
On ETSY, you’ll find the best candles you’ll need and the people willing to perform the ritual for you.
I feel this should be one you do yourself, but I leave this decision up to you.
These ritual candles cost, on average, between $5-$20.
The end product of any life event or experience is an emotion.
The power and intensity of the emotions we’ve attached to these experiences hold us back from moving forward.
It’s almost like an anchor holding us back from moving forward.
The cord-cutting ritual we’re about to discuss is a unique and powerful way to take action.
It allows you to finally let go of the emotions tied to your past.

How to Release Blocked Energy With The Cord-Cutting Ritual
1. Write down your desired intention
Start by writing down a powerful statement about the feeling that no longer serves you.
For example, “At this moment, the suffering I’ve felt will leave my stomach and heart.”
You can make this one sentence long if that one sentence resonates with you strongly enough.
If you wish to have an intention that is several sentences or even paragraphs long, this is your choice.
“This is your ritual; you set the rules.”
You should invest time in this statement because believing it will prove significant.
Remember that emotions live in your body, so speak directly to where these emotions have taken up residence.
Consider calling out the specific parts of your body that you feel the pain the most.
You command this pain to leave, so call it out with conviction.
For example, “My heart will let go from all guilt and shame and fill with love.”
Don’t overthink this part of the process, as there is no “perfect” way to do it.
The key is the emotional release you’ll experience after the candle string is cut.
2. Prepare your cord-cutting candles
Each candlewick will support the ceremonial cord that you’ll be cutting.
Place each candle firmly on its stand.
Ensure the area is free of curious pets and anything that creates a safety hazard.
“It’s a great idea to perform this ritual outside with a hose nearby.”
Gently tie a 100% cotton string to the base of your candle wicks.
This represents the cord you will be cutting.
3. Light both candlewicks
Before lighting each wick, make sure you have your written intention handy.
Make sure you like both wicks.
The flame will often go out; you need to reignite it.
Don’t overthink it.
The flame going out has absolutely no meaning.
4. Read your intention aloud with conviction
While the wick is lit, state your intention allowed and with conviction seven times.
Start with a normal tone, but each time state it louder and with more emotional intensity.
This builds up the energy that will permanently cut the cord.
5. Cut the ceremonial cord
Now comes the moment that you’ve been waiting for.
It’s time to cut the cord.
Start feeling the weight lifted off your mind, your shoulders, and your heart.
Take a deep breath and enjoy a very long exhale.
Cut the string connecting the two candles when you are ready!
6. Post-cord-cutting ritual add-ons
There are several options that you can add to this post-ceremony process.
Many people enjoy burning sage after this ritual to free and open up the space to positive energy.“If someone specifically hurt you, consider writing their name on a piece of paper and burning it as well.”
Self-care afterward is a powerful addition.
Consider a hot soothing bath surrounded by candles and relaxing music.
